The Simcoe County District School Board has more than 100 school libraries, and all schools have a full-time teacher-librarian. There are approximately 1.5 million items in the current resource collection.
Teacher-librarians work with students and staff to develop collections that are engaging for students and staff. The goals are to provide relevant resources for learning, instruction and reading enjoyment.
Teacher-librarians work with students, staff, administration and families to support and improve student literacy and academic achievement.
Summer is almost here!! Students should look "high and low" for missing or overdue books. The last week for library loans will be the week of June 5th. If a student cannot find a book then a replacement fee is required. Paying for the lost item or replacing the book is appreciated. If the book is "discovered" over the summer holiday, the library will gladly refund the money.
Forest of Reading Winners: The Forest of Reading winners have been announced! The book chosen for the Blue Spruce Award was The Night Gardener by the Fan Brothers. The kids from Trillium chose The Wolf Birds by Willow Dawson as their favourite Blue Spruce book. The Silver Birch Award went to OC Daniel by Wesley King and the Red Maple Award went to Shooter by Caroline Pignat . Thanks to all of the students who participated in the Forest of Reading program this year!
It's Book Fair Time Again!! Our Scholastic book fair will run from June 15-17th this year. It will be open in the library during the school day with the exception of Wednesday, June 15th when it will also be open during our Canada 150 celebration night until 6:00 p.m. The book fair is a great place to visit with your children to help them pick out exciting books to read throughout the summer. The proceeds from the book fair will help buy books for our library for the next school year.
Summer Reading: Summer is a great time for fun, relaxation and reading! The Barrie Public Library is a fantastic place to visit on those days when there is nothing to do. Junior and Intermediate students are encouraged to use the Battle of the Books list on the library's website as a guide for great summer reading choices. Check out their website at http://library.barrie.ca/
Have an amazing summer!!
