The Simcoe County District School Board has more than 100 school libraries, and all schools have a full-time teacher-librarian. There are approximately 1.5 million items in the current resource collection.
Teacher-librarians work with students and staff to develop collections that are engaging for students and staff. The goals are to provide relevant resources for learning, instruction and reading enjoyment.
Teacher-librarians work with students, staff, administration and families to support and improve student literacy and academic achievement.
Summer is almost here!! Students should look "high and low" for missing or overdue books. The last week for library loans will be the week of June 11th. If a student cannot find a book then a replacement fee is required. Paying for the lost item or replacing the book is appreciated. If the book is "discovered" over the summer holiday, the library will gladly refund the money.
Forest of Reading Winners: The Forest of Reading winners have been announced. The book chosen for the Blue Spruce Award was Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean’s Most Fearless Scientist by the Jess Keating. The Silver Birch Award went to From Ant to Eagle by Alex Lyttle and the Red Maple Award went to The Winnowing by Vikki VanSickle. The Forest of Reading books are always great choices for gifts or summer reading.
It's Book Fair Time Again!! Our Scholastic book fair will run from June 20-22nd this year. It will be open in the library during the school day with the exception of Thursday, June 21st when it will also be open during our school fun fair until 8 p.m. The book fair is a great place to visit with your children to help them pick out exciting books to read throughout the summer. The proceeds from the book fair will help buy books for our library for the next school year.
Summer Reading: Summer is a great time for fun, relaxation and reading! The Barrie Public Library is a fantastic place to visit on those days when there is nothing to do. Junior and Intermediate students are encouraged to use the Battle of the Books list on the library's website as a guide for some other great summer reading choices. Check out their website at http://library.barrie.ca/
Have an amazing summer!!
